Marketing managers in the Travel Industry have a tough job. They need to get the message out to as many travel agents in the industry as possible within a tight budget.
Increasingly the trend now is to take travel training online. Here we look at the 10 reasons why this is happening:
1. Reaches more people
The traditional method employed by destination marketing companies is to organise road shows where they would hire a room in a town and invite all the local travel agents to come along for a presentation with food & drink.
This is a tried and tested approach and is certainly effective in getting the message across but of course it relies upon the agents actually being available and willing to attend - sometimes giving up their evening. Also unlike the internet, road shows cannot be held in every town so people will always be missed.
2. More cost effective
Cost is always a key element to consider and road shows can be expensive in relation to online training. Once room hire, prizes, food, drink & transport is considered a Roadshow event might cost 500 pounds-1000 each, per town… The cost of an online travel training course is significantly less to reach the same or more agents.
3. If you like that, you’ll like this
The travel industry has experienced a huge amount of mergers in recent years with holding companies owning several unrelated companies. By taking travel training online companies are able to cross-promote products and services.
4. Connect with students & non-agents
Many travel students are the agents of the future so it makes sense to connect with them and provide them with the chance to learn about their product. In addition, there are benefits from the public taking training courses too as it would engage them with the product and encourage them to purchase a holiday.
5. Never gets out of date
As the training is online the copy never gets out of date. Companies can easily update the copy in a cost effective way and keep things fresh. This is not the case for brochures and exhibition stands.
6. Less time required to manage - in the end!
The initial set up of training can be time consuming and bears consideration for anyone considering this route. However, there are significant benefits in the long run from this initial investment.
Probably the best way to approach training set-up is to work backwards. Companies need to think ‘what are the 10 key things that we want to get across to travel agents’. You can then work backwards from there and create the right type of copy to get those 10 messages across. Once this is all set up, the training can run itself with minimal running costs.
7. Appear Web-savvy
Having an online travel presence is very ‘now’ and any company embracing this approach will no doubt gain extra kudos in the industry.
8. Supports flexible working
There is an increasing trend for home working in the travel industry via companies such as travel counsellors. Online training fits this model perfectly and allows home workers to keep up to date with product knowledge even though they no longer work in a high street agency.
9. Broadband
Online training at home would have been a painfully slow experience a few years ago. However, more people have broadband at home, which makes it possible to have an attractive training product with colourful branding and supporting photos.
10. Fastest way to market
Online travel training is the fastest method of getting the message across to agents. If a tourist board has a new attraction it wants to promote, they can easily add a module to the course. They can also e-shot the database to invite them to take the course to learn about the product. This coupled with maybe a free gift promotion is a great way to get the message across.

Outdoor teambuilding vacations are a great way to get to know your colleagues or team-mates. Working well as part of a team is an essential ingredient in the success of any group, and utilizing individual skills in a constructive way is imperative for efficiency in commerce and other spheres.
With teambuilding vacations you can go some way towards promoting these vital personal skills to form tighter units, and improve responsiveness to crisis situations. In this article we’ll look at the benefits of teambuilding activities, and the types of things you can expect to do whilst on your team building vacation.
Teambuilding activity vacations are usually very basic in terms of accommodation, and don’t expect gourmet food for each meal. These factors aside, the beauty and real value of teambuilding centres lies in their activity facilities, staff and experience of building lasting relationships between teams that can be implemented in the real world.
On a teambuilding vacation, it is normal to expect a range of problems and tasks which you have to solve by working as part of your team. Teambuilding of this sort is fun, but it really is much more useful than that. Whilst the trivial situation you are trying to overcome may bear no relation to your daily employment or interest you in the slightest, it is reinforcing natural skills humans possess - i.e. the ability to function as a team for the common good.
By naturally resolving problems in common with other people, you develop the necessary team building skills to be able to work more effectively in team situations. This is then naturally transposed to environment where you need these skills for success, such as the workplace or studio. Additionally, these vacations are also very useful in boosting morale and cementing friendships, which can have untold organisational benefits.
Teambuilding events have their critics and their doubters, but largely employers are becoming more and more aware of the benefits for personal development and to their organisation of building these skills through team building vacations. Furthermore, it’s good fun, and is a welcome break away from the monotony of daily life.
If you’re an employer, or you’re in charge of a team, why not consider investing in a teambuilding vacation for your group? The vacation will turn out to be a real investment, paid off in the motivation and renewed dedication of your staff to teambuilding.

The first concert of the festival will consist of Beethoven’s Concert No. 3 for piano and orchestra, directed by Pedro Halffter and performed by the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra with the Children’s Choir of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria (OFGC).
Of course the festival isn’t centralized to one island. In fact, eight of the Canary Islands will host performances during the eight week festival. The smaller islands of Lanzarote, La Palma, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and El Hierro will host twenty-two of the performances. Even La Graciosa, the smallest of the Canary Islands, will host a performance of Beethoven’s Quartets on January 12.

The fourth largest island of Lanzarote, named for its red mountains, will host several of the festival’s upcoming concerts. Lanzarote is well known for its picturesque volcanic landscapes. It is perhaps also just as well known for its futuristic appearance and controlled development of wildlife and plant life.
Lanzarote is home to more than 100,000 people and has its own international airport. The island relies on tourism as well as agriculture to maintain its economy. Millions of visitors each year enjoy the black sand beaches and unique experience that only Lanzarote can offer.
The 24th Annual Music Festival of the Canaries allows Lanzarote, as well as the other Canary Islands, to showcase their beauty for classical music lovers who gather for the festival. The beautiful mountains and vast beaches are an amazing setting for such a time-honored festival.

Nowadays a lot of people are getting more and more adventurous and have come to plan for trips or vacations in destinations which they are not so familiar with. In the old days, most people learn if a place is a good travel location through word of mouth and recommendations from relatives and friends.
These days, if you are in Australia and you want to visit Bali, Indonesia, you need not call all your contacts to know if their beaches are really that superb. You can simply park yourself in front of your personal computer, click on the search engine for Bali and get loads and loads of information online. In this time and age, making travel arrangements is not so hard and tricky as they used to be; what with the aid of the world-wide-web.
However, one should know that finding a place to stay through the internet is easier said than done. For one, you should not settle on one hotel just because the website looks good or that “it seems nice”. One of the most basic factors that you should look into is the cleanliness of the place. This is not an easy question especially if you or any of your relatives and friends have never been there. In an effort to reassure yourself, you may want to explore the hotel’s website and look into their gallery.
A number of establishments offer pictures of the outside and interior views of their hotels and more particularly on their individual rooms. Knowing how the room looks like would more or less give you an idea if you are going to be comfortable living in it even for just a few days. If such is not shown, another option is to check on the hotel rating system or you may want to look into the feedback of previous customers and clients which are usually included in some of the websites as well. Knowing other traveler’s evaluation and assessment of the place where you plan to stay can give you some assurance that you will be in good hands. The advice is to check into the overall rating and not on the individual feedbacks. As you may know some travelers tend to be so hard to please and pick on a hotel which does offer good enough accommodations. If the reviews are bad as a whole then you can look the other way.
Another thing to consider is the hotel amenities. This may include room facilities like air conditioning, kitchen paraphernalia, refrigerators, heaters; services like airport shuttles and high speed internet access, room service and even free breakfast for two; business centers, canteens, shops and boutiques to visit nearby and even the availability of an outdoor or indoor swimming pool which is a known favorite of kids during vacations.
If you are a non-smoker, then it should interest you to know if such rooms are available as well. After everything else, you should never forget to look into the room rates and prices. You may be swayed by all the amenities only to find out that all your vacation money would be spent on the hotel. Choose one which is within your budget. Some hotels offer different rates during peak and off-peak seasons so look into those, you might be able to have some savings.

One of the pioneers of this concept of new hotel booking is undoubtedly hotel booking system, have not wasted anytime to add their own frills and laces to the routine online reservation method. Here we take a look at some of these new features that have been put into place, largely due to the famousness of hotel booking agencies and such various websites.
1. Careful attention to user preferences.
Till not very long ago, online hotel booking meant selecting a hotel from a list of hotels and other staying facilities present on a website, and making the payments, etc. But now, online booking is not just a one way process; it has become much more interactive. The online booking process is supplemented with a strong team of expert people, who would speak with the clients and suggest to them the exact kind of hotel they are looking for. Clients are meant to put in their requirements, and then a team of people analyze those requirements and come up with the best suited option. Not only does this help in saving costs, but it also provide the kind of stay the client really wants.
2. Providing good value for money.
Most of these online services for hotel accommodations are globally operative. They have complete relations with most hotels around the world. When they place the hotels on their online catalog, they are providing a good international visibility for the hotel. Hence, you could say that the website does much more for the hotel than the hotel do for the website. It is not unexpected, therefore, that the hotels do not mind giving a few concessions to the websites. These concessions are passed on to the clients. Hotel connect, in special, provides as much as 50% off on the rates of the hotels for people booking through the website.
3. Not just online services.
Today’s online hotel booking services are not just online. They employ teams of people who follow up with the hotels from across the world, and actually solicit them to join their ranks. The focus is not just on the topnotch five and four star hotels as it was until a few decades ago. On hotel connect, you will even find lots of two and three star hotels. All this becomes good for the clients who are looking for an economical stay. These teams of people even act as advisors to the clients and as negotiators when they drive good bargains with the hotels listed on the website.
4. Extremely quick service and guidance on the stay.
Other thing is that the websites will not leave you in the lurch once the booking is done. You can coolly forget those past years when you had to wait for weeks to get the tickets of your online booked hotels. With hotel connect and such services, the top booking time delay are two days. Also, you will get a detailed guide on how to reach the place, a brochure of the place, a city map and other relevant information.

Research has revealed that there are a staggering 25 million different ways that an airline fare can be calculated. Whether you are researching this yourself or using a corporate travel management company to do it for you, it can take a long time to find the cheapest available price.
The reasons why there are so many different ways of pricing is because it can all depend on the airline you are using, their rules, the dates you want to fly, times, routes and many other factors. As well as this computers are constantly updating fares so they can vary from hour to hour. Knowing this information can be daunting for any individual who is trying to find the cheapest business travel out there and it is unlikely that anyone has the time to spend hours looking for the best fare.
Corporate travel management companies have the facilities to connect directly with airlines and private contacts to find the best deals out there. It is unlikely that someone searching the Internet under normal circumstances would be able to find the same deals because they are not looking in the right places. Independent surveys consistently show that corporate travel management companies are capable of delivering the best fare prices.
Business travel can be extremely stressful for companies especially when things go wrong. If your traveller misses their flight or it has been cancelled or delayed how are they going to get to where they need to be on time? Companies that offer 24 hour support are popular for this reason because it means that you don’t have to worry what will happen when things go wrong because it will be organised for you.
Corporate travel management companies are paid to spend all day investigating the best possible fare prices for you whereas you employees aren’t. As there is so much to organise with business travel from flights and accommodation to passports and travel insurance, it can take up to a whole day to get everything finished. Most employers would feel that this is a complete waste of their time because their worker will have spent a whole day away from what they are really supposed to be doing.
It’s not surprising that so many people pass this difficult task on to a corporate travel management company because it leaves you free to get on with other things you may feel are more important.

The explosion of the Internet over the last decade has seen businesses and people change their habits forever. Everything is more easily available and whereas before, if you wanted something you had to go out and get it, now you can get anything from food to holidays online.
One sector that has been particularly affected by the domination of the Internet is the high street travel agent. Twenty years ago if you wanted a holiday you had to go to a travel agent and book it whereas today 66 percent of the British population book their holidays online. This is set to increase as 85 percent of people surveyed said that they plan to research or book holidays online within the next 12 months.
There are many different reasons why people now prefer to use an online travel agent rather than go into a shop. The Internet is quicker and easier- you don’t even have to leave your home to book a holiday, it is cheaper to book online, especially with last minute deals and an online travel agent is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This means that people can book their holiday whenever suits them and they are not restricted to certain times which may be hard to work around.
An astounding 67 percent of online British holiday makers intend to conduct most or all of their travel planning online next year while only 4 percent will avoid the internet for travel purposes. Even though these statistics are very promising for any online travel agent they are going to have their work cut out for them as market growth for the industry has pretty much reached its peak.
The market is about to become much more competitive because so many people already book online so the number of people switching from a high street travel agent to online booking is going to be very small. Travel agents and operators need to invest in websites that make the planning and booking process as quick and simple as possible and use customer generated content to build trust. This is important as only 22 percent of people trust advice from an online travel agent or holiday company.
Despite the fact that the online travel agent has undoubtedly taken over the travel industry, the need for a travel agent shouldn’t be underestimated as 46 percent of people who book online will have been to a travel agent to collect brochures which will impact on online travel decisions.

Business travel can be stressful for everyone involved from the person who books the flights to the person who is actually doing the travelling. There are plenty of ways of booking these flights from using the internet, going to a travel agent or use a company that specialises in corporate travel management.
The latter is becoming more popular with businesses because it means that they don’t have to worry about the stresses of organising business travel. This is down to many reasons but the main one is probably because it saves so much time. A corporate travel management company has the ability to do everything for you from booking the flights to sorting out travel insurance.
Many company owners and managers prefer to use this option because it means that their staff aren’t spending all day trying to organise this rather than doing what they’re actually paid to do. So although you would have to pay for this service, if you think about it you’d be wasting the money anyway because you would be paying a member of staff for technically doing nothing.
A good corporate travel management company will also provide a 24 hour service helpline because you just never know when things can go wrong. Sometimes flights can be delayed or cancelled or you may even be late for your flight and miss it. All of these things are a major inconvenience and can be the difference between missing an important meeting or not. Having the all day and all night support there means that alternative arrangements can be made for you to ensure that you get to where you need to be on time.
You can be assured with corporate travel management companies that you are getting the best possible deals. If you ask a member of staff to book flights and accommodation for you they are probably going to go for the quickest and easiest thing they find with no regard to cost because it’s not their money. It is a lot more cost effective to use a company who will search high and low to find the lowest price for you.
It can be difficult to remember everything you need to do before travelling from ensuring passports are up to date to organising travel and health insurance. It is especially easy to miss things if the staff member organising these things has a lot of other work to get on with so is rushing through things. This is just another one of the reasons why many businesses opt to use corporate travel management companies.
