The City New York does seem to be a very good idea at the beginning, but then most people are disappointed with it when they do not seem to be able to keep up with the conditions the pass requires. It is true that the pass is saving and all that jazz, but there are some things that need to be considered. When people end up disappointed with the NYC, it is mostly their on fault. The City pass clearly delineates the terms and conditions at the outset. Let us first see what those terms and conditions are, and then I will tell you of ways by which you can make the most of your city travel.
The first condition is that your pass gets activated only when you want to activate it. This is more of a privilege than a condition actually, but still it ties up with other things. Like, even if you bought the package last month and even got your pass in your hands, it will not be activated till you actually land up in New York and start using it. This helps if your tour gets delayed for some reason, you can still use the pass. So, when you go to your first New York destination and tell the attendant to swipe the pass, that’s when the pass begins to function and your package goes live.
The second condition is that whatever time on a said date you begin using your pass, it will be counted as the whole day. So even if you enter your first tourist place near closing time, say about 4:30 pm, the whole day will be counted. In that way, you will have wasted your whole day. To make the best out of your pass, you need to start out early in the day. Wait at your first spot near opening time. That way, you will be able to visit the maximum number of places in that day and make the most of your pass.
Another very important condition is that the days are counted consecutively. So if you bought a three day package, and you first activated on Monday, then the three days for you would be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If for some reason you cannot visit anywhere on Tuesday, you will be missing that day, because your New York trip will get deactivated on Wednesday. You cannot throw in a Thursday visit. Hence, make sure you can free up next days for your travel. Since you can activate your pass whenever you want, this is simple.
Finally, one tip plan your itinerary wisely. Select places that are in a line and close to each other so that you won’t waste much time traveling. Remember that the more places you visit, the more you stand to gain. Also look out for the New York Pass counters at every gate where you visit. Show the pass here, and you will be granted entry. You won’t have to stand in queues. That means more value for travel.
